Inspect the part quality.

Test the process settings.

I compare temperature, pressure, clamp force, and cycle time. A poor setting can make a healthy mold look bad. I have seen teams blame the tool when the real issue was a process change on the line.

Compare repair cost with replacement cost.

I do not guess. I ask what a repair will take, what the downtime will be, and how much service life the mold still has. If the mold can still support steady output after repair, replacement is not always the best move.

If the defect is process-related, adjust the line.

If the defect is from dirt or wear, clean and repair.

If the defect returns after repair, review the root cause again.

If the mold no longer holds stable output after several fixes, then replacement starts to make sense.

This way, I protect the budget and the production plan at the same time.

I also tell teams to keep spare parts ready for key molds. A spare pin, seal, spring, or insert can turn a long stop into a short one. That is one of the easiest ways to extend mold life without large spending.

A mold is not something I treat as disposable. It is a working asset. When I care for it well, it gives back more stable output, less waste, and fewer surprise stops.

So when a mold starts to act up, I do not rush to replace it.

I inspect it.

I clean it.

I repair what can be fixed.

I replace it only when the facts show that it has reached the end of its useful life.
